A correlation exists between consuming a high-glycemic diet and experiencing a coronary heart disease (CHD) event.
In a new study in “The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition”, researchers assessed the dietary logs of 338,325 participants. Over the course of 13 years, 6,378 of these subjects experienced a CHD event. The researchers found that the subjects who experienced the CHD event tended to consume a diet with a relatively higher glycemic index and glycemic load.
Conclusions
There are many limitations when assessing Glycemic Index and Glycemic Load. Nonetheless, there remains an interesting correlation between eating certain categories of carbohydrates and the risk for heart disease.
