Weight-Lifting Beats Cardio for Controlling Belly Fat

Men who lift weights gain less belly fat as they age compared to men who perform comparable amounts of cardio.

A new study examined 10,500 men over the course of 12 years to determine how their choice of physical activity affected their body composition.  Unsurprisingly, the sedentary men increased their waist circumference over the course of the study.

Compared to the men who performed cardio, the men who engaged in resistance training had less increases in waist circumference.

Conclusions

This is just one of many studies that confirms that weight-lifting is the most important form of exercise for controlling belly fat.  Cardio has value as well, but is not as essential as strength training.
