Athletic Injuries Higher When Vitamin D is Deficient

Consuming adequate amounts of Vitamin D may be valuable towards preventing injury.

A new study measured Vitamin D levels in 214 athletes. Subjects who were deficient in Vitamin D were 1.86 more likely to have a lower extremity strain or core injury and 3.6 times as likely to suffer from a hamstring injury.

Conclusions

Most people, even those who live in very warm climates, are deficient in Vitamin D. Unfortunately, this is extremely problematic, as Vitamin D deficiency has been shown to cause many negative health effects. Those who wish to decrease their likelihood of injury and prevent other negative effects should utilize proper supplementation to ensure that Vitamin D is at an ideal amount.
