Dominance of the lumbar extensors and excessive lumbar extension may be one of the most common causes of back pain.
A new study in the “Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies” examined 18 volleyball players with back pain and compared them to 18 athletes without pain. The athletes with back pain displayed more lumbar extension in their static posture as well as greater extension during dynamic jumping and landing activities.
Conclusions
Overdominance of the lumbar extensors and lack of variability in the sagittal plane is one of the most common causes of low back pain.
